The World’s 50 Best Restaurants – winners announced (June 2018)

Last night saw the unveiling of the annual World’s Best Restaurants with Italy’s Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana scooping first place. London restaurants secured four of those top spots with Lyle’s making a debut into the Top 50 having ranked 54th last year.

Huge congratulations must be extended to Clare Smyth who secured the title of World’s Best Female Chef for Core by Clare Symth.

Clare began her career as protegee of British Chef Gordon Ramsay with whom she worked for more than 13 years, earning the title of head chef at age 28 and becoming chef-patron of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay four years later, the first and only female chef in the UK to run a three-Michelin-star restaurant.

Having left her home in Northern Ireland at the age of 16 to pursue her passion, Clare Smyth worked diligently, amassing 15 years’ experience working in three Michelin star restaurants under the guidance of some of the World’s most talented Chefs.

Clare finally opened her own restaurant in 2017 to rave reviews and now adds World’s Best Female Chef to her series of accolades.

We are also delighted to see Lyle’s on 38th place.

Located on the ground floor of the Tea Building in Shoreditch, Head Chef James Lowe brings together an established network of farmers and fisherman with his pared back, modern, British menu. The highly seasonal menu changes daily and is accompanied by an affordable wine list. Lyle’s is a clean, quiet, and serene space offering lunch and dinner, as well as a drop in coffee bar. The minimalist design of the space makes the venue the ideal backdrop for any occasion.
